3 Life Lessons I Learned from Pixar’s Soul
Do you live your life day to day just in the same routine like cars passing on the highway?
We have all been there.
We live life and wake up to our 9-5 job and stay on the same routine missing every day’s little moments.
Everything then becomes a negative part of our day and nothing seems to ever go right.
We’re always looking for the next big thing or the final goal and lose focus of the present.
If you haven’t seen Pixar’s Soul then I definitely would say to go add it on your list of next movies to watch.
It revolves around the life of Joe Gardner, a middle school band teacher who is about to catch his big break for his passion in life as a musician, when he suddenly finds his life at an end.
His soul then encounters another, known as Soul 22, where he teaches and learns a few lessons on their journey together.
Here are 3 lessons I learned from the movie Soul on how to live a life worth loving.
1.Enjoy the little things in life
The little things in life are what make life worth living.
It’s usually those little things that are what bring joy in your life as well. If you like to draw, then draw.
Or how about that song that triggers you and/or reminds you of a special moment or someone?
Ever wonder why a child loves the bag you wrapped a present in versus the gift?
It’s because they have not been told otherwise by society of “how something should be” or “what can buy you happiness”.
I invite you to enjoy life as it comes, find the joy in everything you do daily.
Use your passion to fuel it and add to it.
Your passion will always be a great addition to your daily life and should never feel like work.
I do my best to find passion in every little thing I do as if I’m going to snap a photo and send it to my wife and show her how proud I am of my completed work.
I always find myself thinking, if I am not proud enough to send a picture, then did I not do this with enjoyment or love?
Don’t lose track of yourself and those you love either as life is precious and time can be short.
2.Everyone has something to offer
No matter what you do or what you don’t do, how you do it or how you say it; what you do matters.
Everything matters to someone.
They may not ever say it directly but that little friendly gesture may have changed someone’s day, no matter how big or small.
I am passionate about my art but its not all I have to offer.
I can also be kind and a great listener.
I can go the extra mile to make someone’s day especially in making my wife’s day and being romantic.
Soul reminds us that every little bit of us not just our passion makes us who we are and that it all matters beyond the expectations we may have of where we should be in life.
3. You Are Enough
Don’t get caught up on what your life should be like and what your purpose should be.
YOU ARE ENOUGH.
We must all give ourselves that time to learn and grow from our experiences and not rush to the finish line.
Even at the beginning of life, we all have a purpose and we all mean something to someone.
Your life has value.
If you are too focused on what you should be, are you really enjoying yourself in the present?
Is trying to be who you think you should be feeling like work?
Go Against the Grain
I don’t know about you, I love a challenge…
But should my passion and the little things start to feel monotonous due to society’s expectations of you then is it really going to be great?
Go against the grain.
Do what you love and love everything you do.
Your time will come and remember that who you are right now is enough. Go live a life worth loving.
